A readiness board with the reason attached
Per station and shift block you see green, amber or red, with the reason attached: which role is missing or which vehicle is blocked. A what-if for recruitment and on-call duty sits right on the board.
2 · Competencies and inspections
A signal before anything expires
Competencies are recorded with expiry dates and cyclical drill cards, and expiry raises a signal automatically. If an inspection expires, the vehicle is blocked and the maintenance task, through to the purchase request, is ready.
3 · After the drill or turnout
Allowances all the way into the payroll run
Drills and turnouts get taxed and untaxed allowances, and the pro-rata annual allowance runs through payroll. Volunteers see their own allowances in the portal, without an account.
What that looks like in practice
The board shows that on Monday daytime a station is missing its only driver — that exact reason is displayed. The recruitment what-if shows that one extra driver closes the gap. Meanwhile a breathing-apparatus inspection expires: the vehicle is blocked and the maintenance task — through to the purchase request — is already queued.
