Build your RACI matrix and see right away where segregation of duties breaks.

Pick a template, adjust roles and steps and see straight away who does what. The builder warns you when one person both requests and approves. You don't need an account, and what you enter stays in your browser.

TemplateChoosing another template resets the matrix to that template.

Matrix

Step

Check

No findings. Every step has one accountable owner and someone who carries it out, and nobody carries out two steps that should be kept apart.

How to read the letters

R
Carries out the step (Responsible).
A
Is ultimately accountable (Accountable). Exactly one per step.
R/A
Carries out the step and is accountable.
C
Is asked beforehand (Consulted).
I
Hears the outcome (Informed).

Small team?

Enter under each role the person who fills it. If one person holds several roles, the builder checks segregation of duties for that person and shows which second check closes the gap.

The file is created in your browser. Nothing is sent to Fiatto.

Next step: up to what amount?

A RACI says who approves, not up to what amount. Set the amount limits per approver in the approval matrix.

What is a RACI matrix?

A RACI matrix lists the steps of a process down the side and the roles across the top. Each cell shows who carries out the step (R), who is accountable (A), who is consulted beforehand (C) and who hears the outcome (I).

For money processes the matrix is also a segregation of duties check: requesting and approving, ordering and receiving, changing a bank account and paying belong with different people. That is why this builder looks not only at the letters, but also at which steps end up with the same person.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a RACI matrix and an approval matrix?

The RACI sets down who does which step and who is accountable for it. The approval matrix sets down which approver may approve up to what amount. You need both: the RACI first, then the amount limits.

Can a role be both R and A?

Yes. Whoever carries out a step and is accountable for it gets R/A. Every step does have exactly one A, otherwise it isn't clear who has the final say.

Why does the builder check segregation of duties?

Because most errors and fraud in money processes happen where one person handles two steps in a row: requesting and approving, or changing a bank account and paying. An ordinary RACI matrix doesn't show that.

We are a team of five. Does a RACI make sense?

Especially then, because in a small team everyone wears several hats. Enter the person for each role. The builder then shows where one person handles two steps that should be kept apart, and which second check covers it.

What is the difference between RACI and RASCI?

RASCI adds an S for whoever supports (Support). For most money processes RACI is enough; you can include supporters as C or I.

Does Fiatto store what I enter?

No. The matrix and the Excel file are created in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers.

In Fiatto it doesn't stop at a matrix

Fiatto routes every request and invoice to the right approver, stops requesters from approving their own requests and records every decision in the audit trail. The controls module flags segregation of duties conflicts on real requests, orders and payments.
